The College hosts high school marching band competition

On Halloween, the college awoke to cymbals crashing, drummers drumming and trumpets warming up their sound for the New Jersey Marching Band Championship hosted by the College. This is a high school marching band competition where 40 schools competed between four different categories to see which marching band was the best. The competition started at 6:30 a.m. and finished at around 9 p.m.

WTSR’s first ever jam session brings musicians together

Amidst the fluorescent lights and acoustic panels on the walls, four students sat in the basement of Kendall Hall tuning their guitars. WTSR 91.3 FM hosted their first ever jam session on Nov. 11 at 5:30 p.m. allowing any College student, regardless of their major or skill level, to bring their instruments and make music in a freewheeling environment.

‘Ghostbusters: Afterlife’ does justice to the original while keeping things fresh

“Ghostbusters: Afterlife” released in theaters on Nov. 19th and was directed by Jason Reitman, who is the son of Ivan Reitman, the director and producer of the original two “Ghostbusters” films. “Ghostbusters: Afterlife” stars Finn Wolfhard, Mckenna Grace, Paul Rudd and Carrie Coon. The film follows the family of Egon Spangler, the former Ghostbuster played by Harold Ramis who unfortunately passed away in 2014. The Spangler family moves onto their grandfather’s old farm as they uncover the secret past of their seemingly normal small town in Oklahoma.

Taylor Swift transforms ‘Red’ track, ‘All Too Well,’ into a short film, releases ‘Red (Taylor’s Version)’

Taylor Swift is known for her storytelling. From her high school romance tale in “You Belong With Me” to her three-part “Teenage Love Triangle” with “Cardigan,” “August” and “Betty” (all songs from her eighth studio album, “Folklore''), her songs are always more than just melodies. Swift revises her beautifully-crafted songs yet again in “Red (Taylor’s Version),” which was released on Nov. 12.

‘Night Teeth’ review: film makes you say ‘not another vampire movie’

Netflix released the film “Night Teeth” on Oct. 20, starring actors such as Jorge Lendeborg Jr, Debby Ryan and Lucy Fry. In the film, Benny (Jorge Lendenborg Jr.), a naive college student, takes the place of his brother, Jay (Raúl Castillo), for an all-night gig as a chauffeur. As per assignment, Benny picks up two girls, Blaire (Debby Ryan) and Zoe (Lucy Fry) from a large mansion and drives them to several LA nightclubs. Zoe tells him he has to hit all of the clubs by morning, no exceptions.

‘Antlers’ may lack in its story but not in its monster

“Antlers,” which was released on Oct. 15, was directed by Scott Cooper. This film was pretty heavily anticipated because of its credited Guillermo del Toro production. It follows a teacher in a small town in Oregon as she and her brother, the local sheriff, start to uncover rumors about local disappearances and deaths from a mythological deer creature.

Ed Sheeran's album '=' equals disappointment

On Oct. 29, Ed Sheeran released his new LP “=” (“Equals”). The album landed at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, and two of its singles “Bad Habits” and “Shivers” peaked in the top 10 of Billboard’s Hot 100 (the tracks got placed second and sixth respectively) despite resistance against the “Bad Habits” music video.

How a TikTok-famous pug is helping us decide the fate of our day

Noodle, a 13-year-old pug, was able to stand up today. Therefore, it will be a good day. It is a bones day. Noodle has recently become a TikTok sensation when his owner, Jonathan Graziano, 30, began to post daily videos of the dog’s ability to stand. When the pug stands, Graziano rules the day as a “bones” day, and when he flops over, it is considered a “no bones day.”

Homecoming performances lit up spirit week

After almost two years since the pandemic, homecoming was officially back on Oct. 2 with both students and alumni joining together on this special day. The Student Government Association hosted the show and helped put the event together. There was food, games and other outdoor activities. Many organizations were outside the school, engaging with the other students and encouraging them to participate. One thing a lot of students and alumni looked forward to was the spirit week performances.

‘Spencer’ review: An impressive yet strange look into the struggles of Princess Diana

After receiving a five-minute standing ovation and overwhelming support at the Venice Film Festival this past September, Pablo Larraín’s “Spencer” premiered on Nov. 5 with high critical acclaim and audience anticipation. For those wanting a more truthful telling of the events surrounding Princess Diana’s eventual departure from royal life, “Spencer” might not live up to the anticipation. “Spencer,” as the opening shot says, is “a fable from a true tragedy,” opting for a more artistic telling of Princess Diana’s Christmas weekend at Sandringham.

‘Eternals’ tells a unique, beautiful story that exceeded my expectations

Marvel Studios’ newest film “Eternals” is finally here.  Directed by Academy Award winner Chloé  Zhao, the film promised to change the Marvel Cinematic Universe as we know it, giving us a look at how the entire universe came to be. We focus on the Eternals, a team of ancient aliens who have secretly been living on Earth for thousands of years and swore to not interfere with humanity unless their sworn enemy, the Deviants, were involved. After an unexpected tragedy forces them out of the shadows, they are forced to reunite to stop the Deviants once more. The film boasts a star-studded cast including Angelina Jolie, Richard Madden, Gemma Chan and Kumail Nanjiani among others.

SOUND/BATH creates relaxing space for students, faculty with music

The Department of Music hosted its first-ever “SOUND/BATH” Tuesday Sept. 21 at 12:30 p.m..  The lights in the Mayo Concert Hall were dimmed, and members of the audience appeared to be asleep. Heads leaned against chair arms, feet were propped up, and a couple of audience members lay down in front of the seats. Tuesday marked the first of the yearlong series in order to bring music that “heals and soothes,” according to Chairperson Colleen Sears of the Music Department.
