With the 2025 season fast approaching, the College’s baseball team is hard at work preparing for what they anticipate will be a successful campaign. Following a productive offseason, the Lions are eager to take the field and build upon last year’s progress, with their sights set on a return to regionals.

The College returned to their home field at George Ackerman Park on March 20, yet to have suffered a loss on the season with their best start since 2006, with a record of 9-0. In their first home game of the year, Widener University looked to end that streak, but they would have had to slow down the red-hot Lions offense to do so.

The College headed down to Auburndale, Florida over spring break to participate in the RussMatt Invitational, a tournament the Lions finished 6-3 in last year.

The College’s baseball team is trying to build on a successful season last year. They made a magical postseason run, winning the New Jersey Athletic Conference, despite finishing the regular season at exactly .500, going 24-24 and 9-9 in conference play. The Lions were perfectly average, but they put together a Cinderella run to defeat Kean in the championship game when it mattered most.

As of Sept. 27 in Chicago Illinois, The Philadelphia Phillies had just been swept by the Chicago Cubs (68-86) and another September collapse seemed imminent. With a two-game lead for the final wild-card spot slowly slipping after an 11-14 record in September, it seemed that even if the Phillies did stumble their way into the final playoff spot, they would not be going very far. Confidence in the Phillies was not high, but after taking the series 4-1 against the NL-worst Washington Nationals, all the Phillies needed was one more win to clinch a playoff berth. Heading into Houston to take on the AL-leading Houston Astros, Aaron Nola, known for his late-year struggles, pitched a no-hitter heading into the 6th inning. Eventually finished off by stout reliever Jose Alvarado and newly formed closer Zach Eflin. Leading the Phillies to a 3-0 win, and their first playoff berth in 11 years.
