For the students, by the students.
The Signal is The College of New Jersey‘s award-winning, student-produced, weekly news organization. Established in 1885, it is among the oldest collegiate newspapers in the country.
Starting as a literary publication, The Signal evolved from a booklet that was only a few pages long to a full news publication that covered a variety of campus events. After a brief hiatus in the 1920s, the following decades saw The Signal change and develop so that it could best serve the needs of a continuously changing and developing college community. The Signal continues to do that today, and our staff is always open to hearing ideas and thoughts from TCNJ’s students, alumni, faculty/staff and other people affiliated with the College.
Today, The Signal is a full-fledged news organization — a place for students across the College to gain experience in the fields of professional writing, journalism, business, marketing, advertising, multimedia, and editing.
The Signal’s Editorial Board continues to expand and is composed of student leaders across multiple disciplines. Led by Editor-in-Chief Tristan Weisenbach and Managing Editors Ally Uhlendorf and Isabella Darcy, The Signal’s staff collaborates closely with one another to produce up-to-date content that appeals to the greater TCNJ community.
In addition to finding the stories, soliciting the writers, and working with the writers through our collaborative editing process, the editorial staff also assumes all page layout and web editing responsibilities.
In the Spring 2025 semester, our newspaper expanded into producing video content and increasing our levels of community outreach and engagement.
The Signal is always looking to increase its staff. Any TCNJ students who are interested may send an email to signal@tcnj.edu or send us a message through social media @tcnjsignal.
Additionally, The Signal accepts guest opinions from any TCNJ student and letters to the editor from any member of the community. Read submission guidelines and policies here. If you want to submit an anonymous tip to The Signal, click here.
