The College’s women’s lacrosse team went 1-1 over their past two games. Despite the middling record, there are many positive takeaways from the team’s performance, especially in their dominant win against Lebanon Valley on March 29.
Fifth-year Ally Tobler continued her season-long streak of at least four points in every game. Tobler is currently averaging 5.625 points per game and 4.75 goals per game.
In the victory against Lebanon Valley, Tobler scored six goals. She also led the team in draw controls with seven, and eight shots on goal.
Another impressive performance came from sophomore Gabriella Roosa, with five goals and five assists for 10 points in one game.
Sophomore CJ Kole and junior Marissa Lucca both had identical stat lines, with four goals and three assists for seven points.
As a collective, the College had 47 shots, 35 of which were on goal, and only had eight turnovers. The Lions also dominated in the ground balls stats, with 23 to Lebanon Valley’s six.
The College has the third best record in the New Jersey Athletic Conference with a 6-2 record on the year, with a tight 14-8 loss against No. 4 Gettysburg on March 26 being only their second loss of the season.
However, Gettysburg is in first place in their conference. With the game being relatively close in score and team stats, the College has proven it can stay competitive with the top teams in the nation even if they lose.
The College’s continued dominance against solid teams, along with close losses against the top teams, help to show where this team can go come playoff time.
The offense is there, firing on all cylinders nearly every game from the team’s biggest producers. The problem against other top teams seems to be a shot suppression issue. Although easier said than done, if the College can lock down in the defensive zone against the top teams, the College could see themselves in the conversation as one of the top teams in the nation.
The College will have two away games back-to-back, the first of which is against Farmingdale State on April 2, and the second against Montclair State on April 5 for their first conference game.
The next time the College will be home will be on Wednesday, April 9, against Kean.
