Netflix’s original series, “Outer Banks” is back with a long-awaited season four. Part 1 of the new season released on Oct. 10.
This season, the Pogues return to the Outer Banks attempting to settle into normal life. However, there is nothing normal about discovering gold in the lost city of El Dorado. The Pogues’ love and desire for treasure hunting could never be so easily forgotten.
The season kicks off with John B. narrating all that has happened since the end of the previous season. He shares that the Pogues are attempting to live a normal and simple life, together again. However, we all know nothing is ever this simple for this group of friends.
Even though things start off poorly for the Pogues, their luck soon starts to change as a man named Wess Genrette comes up to them requesting their help in the search for Blackbeard’s treasure.
The Pogues have a meeting with Wes and his son-in-law, Chandler Groff, where they agree to help them find the treasure. This sends the Pogues on an adventure with danger that none of them expected to endure.
At the same time, Rafe is approached by a businesswoman named Hollis Robinson. This forces Rafe to make a decision that could change everything.
Soon after a new discovery causes the Pogues to realize there is so much more to the story than they originally thought. The Pogues put their brains together to try and uncover the truth behind the new treasure which only continues to fuel their love for adventure.
The Pogues put the clues together, sending them on another journey, which leads to the discovery of more new enemies, uncovered secrets and even more trouble.
This season brought me back to what season one felt like — a captivating adventure like no other. The past two seasons felt like a never-ending version of the first season. The storyline of El Dorado felt extremely dragged out when it could have been condensed into one.
The beginning of season four felt like a breath of fresh air. The storyline was what this show needed to bring it back to life. The writing in this show isn’t the best and still tends to feel childish, but this can be overlooked by the excitement that the plot brings.
While the Pogues’ risky adventures add exhilaration and suspense to this season, the audience still gets to see their friendships and relationships blossom into something beautiful. A group of friends who truly care about one another and people who will always be there for each other is something refreshing to see emulated on screen.
The references to season one written into this season also bring a nostalgic feeling back into the show, one that had been missing from the previous seasons.
Part one leaves off with a mindblowing cliffhanger, plot twists and new adventures. These bring this show back to everything that made the first season as enjoyable as it used to be. This new storyline has allowed me to confidently say I’m excited to see what the next part has to offer.
