The weather is starting to get colder, leaves are starting to fall and footballs are starting to fly again. On Sept. 7, the Lions kicked off their football season with a win against Eastern University.

The game began with Eastern winning the coin toss and deciding to defer possession until the second half. Quarterback Trevor Bopp who is a 5th year Finance major had a rough start throwing an interception on the third drive of the game landing Eastern University at the 42-yard line. Eastern was off to a rough start of their own as a fumble gave the Lions the ball back.

The first points of the game came from the College with a 13-yard pass from Trveor Bopp to fellow fifth year finance major Malin Jasinski. This was then followed up by another touchdown from freshman business management major Ryan Mendes. Bopp was under pressure but was able to connect with Mendes for a 22-yard touchdown resulting from another Eastern turnover.

Points continued to accumulate for the College as the second quarter opened with a 1-yard touchdown run by senior civil engineering major Jayson Schmidt.

Eastern finally managed to put points on the board with a 15-yard field goal from sophomore marketing major John Nolek. Through the remainder of the quarter, they could not manage to find the endzone and settled for yet another field goal, closing off the half with the College leading 14-6.

During halftime, clouds rolled in and turned this matchup to a rain game. This proved challenging as both teams struggled with snaps and completing passes. Nonetheless, Eastern’s quarterback Brett Nabb put the team on his back to give them their first and only touchdown of the game.

In response, halfway through the third quarter 5th year finance major Malin Jasinski caught yet another touchdown pass, combined with another successful extra point by freshman civil engineering major Tim Willever, who did not miss all game, and the Lions were up 28-12 heading into the fourth quarter.

During the fourth quarter the College continued to dominate with an explosive run into the red zone by Bopp, which set up a pass to fifth year business management major Thomas Burke for another touchdown for the Lions which put the game away and the College won with a final score of 34-12.

Bopp had an outstanding game throwing for a total of 368 yards and Jasinski reached a new career high of 13 receptions that totaled 152 yards.
