Campus Police finds intoxicated student wearing garbage bag in lieu of pants
At approximately 11 p.m., Campus Police responded to a report of an intoxicated male on J Street behind Wolfe Hall on Sept. 11. The officer found the male student sitting on the ground heavily intoxicated. Upon arrival, the officer observed the male student on the ground, wearing no shirt and a garbage bag in lieu of pants.
When the officer approached the intoxicated student, the officer immediately observed the scent of alcoholic beverages emanating from his breath. While speaking with him, the officer also observed his speech to be slurred.
The intoxicated student stated that he drank six shots of vodka at approximately 10 p.m. at one of the townhouses on campus. After leaving the townhouses, he then went to a party at a fraternity house where he drank one beer, and was subsequently kicked out of the party since he was too intoxicated, police said. He also stated that he was dropped off by a vehicle at the rear of Wolfe Hall at approximately 10:40 p.m., according to police reports.
TCNJ EMS arrived at 11:10 p.m. and assumed patient care, according to police reports. TCNJ EMS decided that the student was unable to care for himself and needed to be transported to a medical facility. Pro-staff arrived on scene and took all relevant information. Ewing EMS arrived at approximately 11:40 p.m. to transport the student to the hospital, police said. The student was issued a summons for underage possession and consumption of alcoholic beverages.
Male student urinates on himself after fraternity party
Campus Police responded to a report of intoxicated students in Decker Hall at 12:40 a.m. on Sept. 7. Upon arrival, Campus Police met with the caller, who said that he noticed a male student who smelled like alcohol and looked like he was staggering and slurring his speech. The caller said he also saw the intoxicated student accompanied by three other students, police said.
Campus Police knocked on the male student’s door, and his roommate answered. Campus Police immediately smelled an alcoholic odor emanating from the roommate’s breath. As the roommate spoke, Campus Police noticed his speech to be slow and slurred. Campus Police observed the male student who was described by the caller as lying on the floor and unconscious.
Campus Police entered the room and shook the student’s arm to get his attention, and he responded with slurred speech. As the student spoke, officers were able to detect the scent of alcoholic beverages emanating from his breath. Campus Police helped the student sit up against his bed and asked him if he had been drinking. He responded by telling police that he had drank just a little bit, according to police reports.
When Campus Police asked him what type of beverages he consumed, he stated that he had drank jungle juice and four beers. Campus Police noticed that the student had a wet substance on his shorts, and it appeared that the student may have urinated on himself. The student then vomited into a trash can.
TCNJ EMS arrived at 12:55 a.m. and began assessing the male student. The roommate told Campus Police that he was at an off-campus fraternity party with the student. The roommate confessed that he had consumed mixed alcoholic drinks and four beers, according to police reports.
Campus Police began writing a summons for both students. TCNJ EMS assessed the roommate and deemed him safe to stay on campus, police said. After further evaluation, Ewing Township EMS and TCNJ EMS both determined that the student needed to be transported to the hospital for further medical treatment, police said.
After being helped onto a stretcher by three people, the male student immediately passed out. The student regained consciousness on the elevator and vomited again. At 1:25 a.m., Ewing Township EMS departed Decker Hall to transport the student to a hospital.
Student complains of lost vision after consuming vodka
Campus Police was dispatched to Eickhoff Hall in reference to an intoxicated person at approximately 12:55 a.m. on Sept. 5. Campus Police arrived at Eickhoff Hall and observed two female students in the bathroom standing by the sink, police said. A third female student was standing by the bathroom door. Campus Police spoke to one of the female students who said that her roommate was complaining that she was losing her vision after consuming vodka.
Campus Police asked the female students how much alcohol they drank. The students said that they all consumed approximately five shots of vodka, according to police reports. Campus Police asked the students if there was more alcohol in the room and one student said that there was some alcohol in the drawer. Campus Police asked the student to retrieve the alcohol from the drawer, and she retrieved one 750 mL bottle of Tito’s Homemade Vodka, two 1.75L bottles of New Amsterdam Red Berry Vodka and a Fiji water bottle that contained more vodka.
While one student was being evaluated by TCNJ EMS, she stated that she had taken medication prior to drinking alcohol, but also said she was feeling better. TCNJ EMS determined that all of the students were OK and no longer needed medical treatment, police said.
The students signed a refusal for medical treatment form. Pro-staff arrived on scene and spoke to the female students and told them that Student Conduct would be in touch with them in the near future in reference to this incident. Pro-staff also advised that the students could stay on campus, but they should contact Campus Police if their condition worsened. According to police reports, the students were not issued an underage drinking summons due to New Jersey’s 911 Lifeline Legislation. The alcohol was also discarded prior to Campus Police leaving the room.
Male students engage in suspicious activity in Carlton Avenue construction lot
Campus Police was conducting a check on the Carlton Avenue construction lot at approximately 9:50 p.m. on Aug. 29 when an officer saw two males in the grass, behind a stack of concrete, on the west side of the lot. Before the officer exited the vehicle, the officer saw one of the male students pick up a black checkered backpack and then put it back down.
Once the officer exited the vehicle, both males walked over to the officer. When they reached the vehicle, one officer asked them if they were doing anything illegal and they stated they were not. The officer further inquired why they were trying to hide their backpack if they weren’t doing anything illegal. They replied that they were not hiding anything and the officer allowed one of the male students to retrieve the bag.
The officer asked if she could look in the bag, and the student said that she could. According to police reports, the officer looked in the bag and did not observe anything suspicious. The officer advised the students that the lot they were in is a private lot and they were trespassing.
Two more officers arrived on scene. Campus Police searched the area and observed a College key on a lanyard, a Juul electronic cigarette lying on the ground and an empty, ripped up plastic bag, police said. As one officer continued to search the area, the other two officers spoke with the male students.
One male student admitted to smoking marijuana earlier at the Carlton Avenue Construction Lot with his friend, and said he still had marijuana in his backpack, police said. Campus Police read the male student who admitted to smoking marijuana his Miranda Rights, to which he agreed to waive his rights and signed the Uniform Mercer County Rights form.
Campus Police also went over the Consent to Search form, and the student advised that he understood the information and consented to the officer searching his bag, according to police reports. Once the form was signed, Campus Police searched the backpack, which showed negative results for any illegal substances.
The male student said that he thought the marijuana was in the bag and did not know where it could be. Campus Police searched the male student and did not find anything to be on him, police said. The plastic bag was the only item that may have contained marijuana, but it was ripped and there was no residue in the bag.
According to police reports, the bag did not smell of marijuana but smelled of mint tobacco. After finding negative results of illegal substances, Campus Police advised the male students that they were free to leave and walk back to their residence halls, and again advised the students that they were trespassing and the incident would be documented and referred to Student Conduct.
Student vomits twice after drinking five Svedka shots
Campus Police responded to a report of an unconscious intoxicated male in Wolfe Hall at approximately 12:30 a.m. on Sept. 9. Upon arrival, Campus Police met with the community adviser outside one of the men’s bathrooms in Wolfe Hall. The CA informed Campus Police that the intoxicated male student was alert and conscious, but had been throwing up. The CA stated the that the student’s roommate contacted her and informed her of the state that he was in, police said.
Campus Police entered the bathroom and noticed that the student was in the first stall on the right and was using the bathroom. The student was responsive and Campus Police instructed him to finish using the bathroom and to come out of the stall. Though his speech was slurred, he was able to communicate and answer all questions appropriately.
The student exited the stall without a shirt on and had vomit on his back, shorts and legs. When asked what he had to drink, he stated that he had five shots of Svedka vodka at around 8 p.m. He said he was drinking in Wolfe Hall, but was unsure of the room number, according to police reports.
At approximately 12:40 a.m., TCNJ EMS arrived on scene and assumed patient care. Pro-staff also responded to the scene, police said. At approximately 1:18 a.m., TCNJ EMS deemed the student to be in stable condition and able to care for himself for the remainder of the evening. The male student refused any further medical treatment or transport to a medical facility. Before escorting the male student back to his room, Campus Police allowed him to take a shower, police said. When the student was done showering, Campus Police escorted him back to his room.
When Campus Police exited Wolfe Hall, Pro-staff contacted Campus Police to report that the student started vomiting again after they left. Campus Police went back to Wolfe Hall and entered the men’s restroom, and the student was in a shower getting changed into a clean pair of clothes, police said. Campus Police requested for TCNJ EMS to return to the location to reassess. The student exited the shower and waited for TCNJ EMS to arrive. TCNJ EMS arrived at approximately 1:30 a.m. and began assuming patient care. TCNJ EMS deemed the student to be in stable condition and able to care for himself the remainder of the evening, police said. The student refused any further medical treatment or transport to a medical facility. He was not issued a summons due to New Jersey’s 911 Lifeline Legislation.
Intoxicated student stumbles into wooded area near Townhouse South
While assisting on a lockout in Townhouse East at approximately 12:22 a.m. on Sept. 1, Campus Police was approached by a community adviser who said there was an intoxicated male in the woods near Townhouse South. Campus Police went to the wooded area near Townhouse South where they found a male on C Street near George Ackerman park who appeared to be intoxicated. The male student advised that he was attending a house party on Pennington Road, where he consumed five cans of Natural Light Beer, police said.
Ewing Township EMS arrived on scene to evaluate the male student. The male student was determined to be OK and refused further medical treatment.
He signed a refusal for Ewing Township EMS and was issued a summons for underage drinking, police said. He was also advised of his Ewing Township court date and time. His roommate arrived at C Street and walked him back to his dorm room, according to police reports.
