A select group of runners ran at the Sam Howell Invitational this weekend at Princeton University before joining their team at the Roadrunner Invitational hosted by Ramapo College.
Three distance runners earned Eastern Conference Athletic Championship qualifying marks at the Sam Howell Invitational.
Senior Rob Nihen posted an ECAC qualifying time of 15:11.27 in the 5000-meter race while classmate Dennie Waite qualified for ECACs by finishing the 1500-meter race in 3:57.65.
Junior Claire Johnson ran the 5000-meter race, finishing with an ECAC time of 17:46.91.
The women’s team scored 101 points and placed third at the Roadrunner Invitational, trailing second place Northeastern University (115.5) and winner St. Peter’s College (168.5).
Senior Brianna Brennan placed second with an NCAA and ECAC distance of 39.60 meters in the javelin throw. Classmate Sarah Wehrhan placed third in the shot put (11.75 meters) and fifth in the hammer throw (44.58 meters), both ECAC distances.
Senior Meryl Wimberley took second in the 400-meter with an ECAC qualifying time of 57.99 seconds.
The 4x400 relay team of Wimberley and classmates Miriam Khan, Rochelle Prevard and Alexandra Tomaselli placed third with an ECAC cut of 4:03.04.
Freshman Emily Kulcyk earned an ECAC qualification by placing second in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:05.05.
Freshman Katie Knight finished eighth in the 100-meter hurdles with an ECAC time of 15.85 seconds.
Sophomore Brielle Doremus was 10th with an ECAC qualifying time of 16.23 seconds. She was followed by freshman Micheaux Ferdinand who finished 11th in 16.39 seconds, another ECAC time.
The men’s team placed third at the Roadrunner Invitational, scoring 85 points, behind Northeastern (95) and Ramapo College (106).
Freshman Scott Lisa won the high jump with an ECAC height of 1.93 meters.
Sophomore Steve D’Aiutolo placed second in the 400-meters posting an ECAC time of 49.54 seconds. He was followed by senior Kyle Gilroy who finished fifth (50.19 seconds) and freshman Kevin Mulcahey (50.53 seconds), who placed sixth.
The young 4x400 relay team of D’Aiutolo, Mulcahey and freshmen Kevin Reavey and Mike Spekhardt placed second with a time of 3:24.84, 0.84 of a second short of ECAC standards.
“All four guys put in their best effort,” Spekhardt said. “We are looking to go to nationals down the road for the 4x400, and I am looking to go to ECACs for the 400 and 200.”
