Confidence is essential to success in business, and the College’s chapter of the Pi Sigma Epsilon sales and marketing fraternity proved this as they racked up awards at the organization’s national convention last week in Orlando, Fla.

The College’s Zeta Zeta chapter was ranked as the best in its tier, and junior marketing major Adam Schumer took top prize in the convention’s sales contest.

“I felt very confident going into the PSE Pro-Am Sell-a-Thon at the national convention because I competed in the same competition last year … I was very motivated to show myself and others that I had learned from my mistakes,” Schumer said.

In addition to Schumer, 11 other students from the College participated in various competitions at the convention, according to the chapter’s vice president of Public Relations, Dan Lisi. Out of these student participants, two were considered finalists in their events.

Having a College student place first in the Sell-a-Thon, along with the College’s overall success at the national convention, shows the progress of an organization that has only been a part of the campus for a few years.

“We are a growing club that continuously prides itself on improving our efficiency and our ability to work with the (College’s) community,” Lisi said.

A major goal of PSE as they move forward, according to their faculty advisor Al Pelham, is to increase their membership and gain greater campus involvement, so that they can open up their sales experience, networking and other opportunities to more students at the College.

As a national co-ed business fraternity, PSE’s mission is to “develop the sales and marketing skills of its members,” according to its website. The College’s chapter seems to have accomplished this so far and shows no signs of allowing that to change as they advance.

“This experience puts students on the fast-track to obtain some of the best jobs available in the competitive marketplace of our time,” Schumer said.

The members of PSE continue to strive forward in an effort to promote not only their individual successes, but the success of their organization and the entire campus.

Pelham, who has seen the group grow from the beginning, expresses satisfaction with their current success and relates it to the growth of the College’s overall image.

“It was especially gratifying to win at a national event, beating much larger schools,” Pelham said. “Winning at these kinds of competitions enhances the reputation and image of our college and its students.”
