College tops Moravian, drops to Montclair

Heads up! This article was imported from a previous version of The Signal. If you notice any issues, please let us know.

The College’s women’s basketball team started off the week right Tuesday against the Greyhounds of Moravian College with a 75-51 victory.

The week unfortunatly did not end in the same fashion as they fell to Montclair State 57-44.

Senior Alex Gregorek led the Lions Monday against Moravian with a team high of 20 points.

Junior Hannah Tait chipped in with 15 points, and senior Keri Washington added seven points.

In total, 10 players found the bottom of the basket as they scored a season high for a road game.

“When we shoot as well as we did against Moravian things go by a lot smoother,” Washington said. “Usually we get good shots in the flow of the offense, and our team is playing team basketball. It really helps our confidence as a team.”

Saturday’s game against Montclair State pitted two conference opponents sitting in the middle of the pack in the NJAC. The Red Hawks, however, were too much for the Lions as they secured the victory 57-44.

“We have been continuously taking two steps forward and five steps back,” Washington said. “It is important that we focus on making strides and not being inconsistent.”

The Lions held a five point lead with eight minutes remaining in the first half, but the Red Hawks erased the deficit and took a three point halftime lead, 28-25. The College never led in the second half as Montclair State increased their lead to an eventual 57-44 victory.

The College will next hit the hardwood tonight against the fourth place Rowan Profs. They will return home next Saturday to face Ramapo College at 6 p.m.
