The College’s track teams kicked off 2011 right with some solid numbers at the NYRR College Saturday Night at The Armory I in New York, NY.
The tournament took place at the 168 Street Armory, where the College was one of only two Division III teams in attendance.
The men had a strong showing in the mile by senior Dennis Waite, who posted the third best time of the 29 competitors with a mark of 4:17.74, a mark that was good enough for Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) qualifying.
Senior Kyle Gilroy placed second in the 400 meters with a time of 49.25 seconds and second in the 60-meter high hurdles with a time of 8.18 seconds.
The College had three runners meet ECAC standards in the 500 meters, led by freshman Kevin Mulcahey, who had the 14th best overall time with 1:06.24. Junior Justin Worthing posted a 1:06.94 in the event, and sophomore Alex Brown posted a 1:07.13.
Junior Chris Medina had an ECAC qualifying time in the 60 meters with a time of 7.10 seconds, and junior Andrew Herschman had a time of 8:51.93 in the 2,000 meters.
The field events were also kind to the College, where senior Tim Blashford tied for fourth in the pole vault with a height of 4.5 meters. Sophomore Steve D’Aiutolo placed sixth in the triple jump with a distance of 14.05 meters, which met ECAC standards.
The women also came out strong, led by a record-breaking performance by freshman Brigit Roemer, who set a school record for the College by posting a distance of 11.34 meters in the triple jump, good for fifth overall at the tournament.
Senior Sarah Wehrhan finished in the top 10 in the weight throw, finishing seventh with a toss of 14.92 meters.
The women’s team had a very strong performance in the 3,000 meters with three runners finishing in the top 20. Sophomore Claire Johnson, sophomore Rachel Morris and junior Danielle Aran finished eighth, 15th and 20th, respectively.
The team will now look toward the Princeton Relays on Jan. 22, where it will look forward to contining its recent success.
