From coast to coast, critics seem to be raving about Ben Affleck’s latest film, “The Town.”
The film is centered in Charlestown, Mass. where bank robberies occur on a regular basis. Doug MacRay (Affleck) and three of his friends, including Jeremy Renner of “The Hurt Locker” fame, are a part of this trend in this infamous section of Boston. However, the most recent job changes everything. MacRay begins to mix business with pleasure when he gets involved with the bank’s manager, Claire Keesey, played by Rebecca Hall, who was taken briefly as hostage by the men only days before.
As their relationship begins to get more serious, MacRay plans to leave Charlestown and his life of crime behind but finds the federal police, his friends and personal obligation getting in the way.
Overall, the film’s simplicity combines drama and action and certainly solidifies Affleck as a prominent director. The film was brilliantly cast and all involved delivered quite convincing performances.
Comparable to “Heat,” with the flavor of “The Departed,” “The Town” is certainly worth seeing and deserves all the high praise it has been receiving.
