After lengthy deliberation during the Oct. 21 meeting, the Student Finance Board (SFB) approved $4,514 for the Inter-Greek Council to bring David Stollman, an expert on recruitment strategies and fraternity improvement, to the College on Nov. 18.
The Board was originally split on whether the event, called “Buy In or Get Out,” will be interesting enough in itself.
“It’s not a unique event,” said Brianna Glynn, senior representative and biology major. Other members shared concerns about the proposed date.
“Most students are in club meetings on Wednesday afternoons,” said Ashley LaRose, senior representative and psychology and communication studies major.
“I think there are enough people who … would find interest in this,” because Stollman is “someone relatable with a lot of experience,” said Garrett Hoffman, administrative director and junior mathematics major.
According to the Inter-Greek Council, Stollman’s presentation will empower campus leaders and help them better motivate their members. The event will take place in Kendall Hall.
SFB also approved CHABAD’s request for $3,264 to hold a “Shabbat 100” dinner this Friday after cutting $100 for paper goods. The event will be in the Business Building Lounge and include traditional foods as well as several Jewish performers, including Nosson Zand, a Jewish rapper, according to CHABAD.
After cutting $313.15 from building services and utensils requests, SFB granted $1,661.25 to the Japanese Club for the event, Banzai, as part of Experience Asia Month. The event will be held on Nov. 6 in the Travers/Wolfe Link, and will include food provided by Wasabi Wok as well as arts and crafts. Games will also be included, according to the Japanese Club.
After cutting $60 from the tablecloth request but granting an additional $200 for food insurance, SFB granted the Indian Student Association $859 for Coffeehouse, a part of Experience Asia Month.This event is cosponsored by the Asian American Association (AAA), and will include traditional dishes and cultural talents. Coffeehouse will take place at 8 p.m. in Cromwell Main Lounge on Nov. 18.
SFB also approved Deaf-Hearing Connection’s request for $791.55 to bring Raymond Luczak, a gay, deaf author, to the College. SFB granted an additional $70 to the initial request of $721.55 for a half-page ad in The Signal.
The College’s sign language classes will be attending, and the New Jersey School for the Deaf is being invited to attend the presentation on Nov. 9 in Mayo Concert Hall, according to Deaf-Hearing Connection.
SFB also granted ACTION:Activist Coalition and Progressive Student Alliance $142 to show the film “Occupation 101,” a documentary on Middle Eastern conflict, on Nov. 11 in Forcina Hall 132.
