Despite a valiant effort, the Lions fell to the Blue Jays of Johns Hopkins University 2-1 Tuesday night. The winning goal came in double overtime on a penalty stroke by junior midfielder Ariana Branchini. She also scored the goal that tied the game halfway through the first half.
Freshman forward Emilie Taylor scored the Lions’ lone goal two minutes into the first half, but the No. 13-ranked Blue Jay defense stuffed the Lions the rest of the way.
“I feel like we did a lot of great things and dominated play,” said head coach Sharon Pfluger. “We’re young and talented. We’ll learn from this game.”
The Lions’ defense, lead by the strong goaltending of sophomore Shannon Syciarz, kept the team in the game letting up only two goals.
The loss drops the Lions to 6-2 on the season, while the Blue Jays improve their record to 8-2. The Lions’ next game is Oct. 10 against Rowan University.
