In a 7-4 vote, SFB denied base budget funding of $441 to TCNJ Strong, a new club at the College with the purpose of supporting overseas troops by sending letters and care packages.
According to Melissa Hoydis, president of TCNJ Strong, the group has 16 care packages ready to be shipped. The group also takes trips to museums and works on projects with the Army ROTC.
Michele Velluzzi, SFB financial director, said she did not agree with funding because the only activities the group holds on campus are drives.
"Their objective is too narrow because they basically send letters overseas," Tanya Habibian, Biomedical Engineering major and SFB freshman representative, said.
SFB also denied base budget funding to the Foundation for International Medical Relief of Children at TCNJ.
Irene Tran, vice president of the group, said the goal of the group is to "raise awareness about global health issues."
"It really hasn't done much on campus and they want the Student Activity Fee to give them money," Mike Stolar, operations director, said. "They did everything backwards."
SFB denied the Future Business Leaders of America's (FBLA) request to fund their base budget of $210.
"It doesn't seem as if they do more than eat pizza and play the Wii," Velluzzi said.
SFB unanimously funded $321 for the base budget of Teachers of Young Children Association (TYC), whose purpose is for students to work with children of all ages.
"Our club is great for anyone with an interest with children," Scott Titmas, elementary education major, said, presenting on behalf of YCA. "We try to get people who want to have an influence on children in any sort of way."
SFB also unanimously approved funding for The Treble Makers, a new all-female a capella group.
The $73.50 request covered costs for publicity, including a half-page Signal ad and 50 copies.
SFB unanimously funded the base budget of the Women's Center.
"We have a space in the Student Center as a safe haven," Anne Smolen, treasurer of the Women's Center, said. "We have discussion meetings either led by ourselves or by speakers or professors."
The base budget of $94 would cover mostly publicity costs.
The center's major annual event is Take Back the Night to be held in April, commemorating Women's Sexual Assault Awareness Month.
In a 9-1 vote, SFB approved $294 for the base budget of the new Public Health Communication Club (PHCC).
Funds would cover publicity costs including 200 photocopies, a full-page Signal ad and two half-page Signal ads.
SFB also unanimously approved the base budget for the Society for Parliamentary Debate.
"Just like when they came up last time, I think that we should pick them up," Warren Samlin, business major and freshman representative, said. "They represent an important part of the community."
SFB decided to postpone a decision to fund TCNJ Taiko, a Japanese art form club on campus, pending their constitution.
TCNJ Taiko will be performing in Mystique and the Synergy Concert, and the group performed during Globalpooloza on Sunday.
