The Student Finance Board (SFB) unanimously approved the Astronomy Club's request for their "Star Party," minus the cost of food, totaling $17.50 of the $76.63 requested.
"We request money for the semesterly star party to have some things to be served along with the event," Justin Nieusma, president of the Astronomy Club, said. "The whole purpose is to look at the stars but the food is for the guests when they wait in line."
The event is scheduled to take place from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Quimby's Prairie on April 22. A meteor shower will occur during this event.
"I think it's a good event but as usual we don't fund food if its not crucial for the event," Michele Velluzzi, SFB financial director, said.
In a 6-4 vote, SFB denied funding for the Council for Exceptional Children's base budget of $200.
"Anyone in Mercer County is welcome to come and we have one event per semester," Christina Wall, president of the council, said.
"It seems like they want to work with the kids like Best Buddies," Warren Samlin, freshmen representative, said. "But since they're not asking for much, I don't have too much a problem to be funded."
But the council was not funded. "The Board felt that because a majority of their programs were happening off campus and were not geared toward the students of the College, that we should not be funding it," Leonardo Acevedo, executive director of SFB, said.
