The Student Finance Board (SFB) unanimously approved $31,080 of the College Union Board (CUB) request for "Stephen Lynch Comedy Show" to take place April 22 in Kendall Hall.
"Since Tracy Morgan didn't work out, we'd like to bring Stephen," Christina Chiarello, CUB event coordinator, said. "He was the top choice among students of the College."
Lynch is a standup comedian and musician known for his songs mocking life and pop culture. He has appeared on a Comedy Central Presents special in 2008 and had the lead role in "The Wedding Singer" on Broadway.
The funding covers talent fees, $2,800 in agency booking fees, a full-page Signal ad and photocopies.
The student opener will be determined by the winner of a comedy festival in the Rathskeller.
SFB stipulated that CUB reduce their $34,331.80 request to $31,080, cutting costs from the opening act since it is not the main focus of the event.
SFB unanimously approved the Jewish Student Union's $8,161 request for "Living Biblically" on April 15, featuring A.J. Jacobs, author of "The Year of Living Biblically."
The costs would cover speaker fees and a half-page Signal ad.
In a 5-2 motion, SFB denied the Student Government Association (SGA) freshman class council's request for $5,102 for their event "Class of 2012 Freshmen Formal." The event was scheduled for April 30 in Angelonis' Cedar Gardens.
According to Alexa Kaminsky, SFB equipment manager, funding such events is not SFB's policy.
SFB approved the Black Student Union (BSU) request for $2,150 for their 11th annual "Fashion Fever" fashion show, to be held April 4, featuring a diverse crowd of models and designers.
Costs will cover $900 for a DJ, $1,096 for Kendall Hall, $200 for props and $400 for makeup.
Tickets will be sold for $10.
In a 7-4 motion, SFB approved the Asian American Association's (AAA) request for $1,799.00 for their Multicultural Buffet scheduled for April 8 in the Brower Student Center atrium.
SFB unanimously approved Unión Latina's second annual "Copa Night" scheduled for April 24. The events is to be co-sponsored by Lambda Theta Alpha and Mu Sigma Upsilon.
Featuring a live band performance by Son Mundo, the event aims to raise awareness about Latino culture and history.
SFB approved Alpha Kappa Delta and Water Watch's event, "Global Citizens Climate Change and Water Film Festival," scheduled for April 8.
Of the $1,327.58 requested, SFB stipulated that $725 would be used to cover food and travel expenses for the speakers.
SFB approved the French Club's request for $1,031 for their "French Club Bus Trip to Philadelphia Art Museum and Creperie."
SFB granted full funding with the stipulations that 55 spots be open to all students, that all students in French Club sign up and that the event be pushed back one week in order to advertise.
SFB unanimously approved Unión Latina's request for $1,022.63 for their "Latino Awareness Celebration Month Closing Ceremony" to be held April 29 in the Business Lounge.
The event will feature cultural Latino food and a folkloric dance group called Orquidea de Oro de Colombia. Funds will also cover decorations and paper goods.
The Indian Student Organization (ISA) requested $899 for their annual "ISA Bhangra Night" on March 21.
Funds were to be used to cover $750 in food in addition to decorations, Bhangra CDs, utensils and photocopies. Since Sodexo does not have ethnic food, ISA will pay additional to get food from elsewhere.
SFB allocated $89, funding everything except food costs.
The Catholic Campus Ministry requested $511 for their "Poverty Simulation" to take place Saturday in the Brower Student Center.
The event aims to show students the effects of poverty, specifically in the New Jersey area.
Funding would cover speakers from the Trenton Area Soup Kitchen, program materials and lunch for speakers and drinks, in addition to a full-page Signal ad.
In a 8-3 motion, SFB allocated $346 to CCM to cover the event minus the Signal ad and food expenses.
In a second request, CCM asked for $340 for their "CCM Lenten Reflection: Walking with Hope" to be held April 17 in St. Ann's Parish.
SFB denied funding because the event is to be held off campus.
In an 8-5 motion, SFB approved Circle K's request for $285 for "Circle K Late Night Service" to be held April 6.
Their biggest event of the year, it aims to bring the campus community together for projects including making peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, fleece blankets and cards for sick children for the Trenton Area Soup Kitchen.
