The Student Finance Board (SFB) unanimously denied funding for the Student Government Association's (SGA) $1,360 request at its meeting last Wednesday. "Run for Congo" was the only request of the meeting.
SGA asked for two buses for transportation to a run/walk fundraiser in Roosevelt Island, N.Y., intended to spread awareness of the conflict in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The price per bus was $680, and each bus can seat about 45 people.
SFB debated whether the timing of the request and the number of students already enlisted to attend the event would be a problem. The run was scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 4, three days after SGA presented to SFB. SGA also said they had 50 students who were signed up to go, and with another bus they might be able to enlist more.
SFB decided only three days to publicize would not be enough to fill the rest of the second bus. SGA also said they would attend the run/walk even without funding.
SFB, which prior to the meeting had a total balance of $264,544.60, allocated a total of $0.
