Metzger Apartments on schedule, on budget

Construction of the Metzger Drive Apartments should be completed in July 2009, according to Bill Rudeau, director of campus construction.

"Progress has been very good with foundations completed and most studding completed," Rudeau said.

According to the College's Web site, the apartments will provide up to 400 beds for upperclassmen. They will also feature five-person suites with a layout of three single bedrooms and one double bedroom.

Along with a large living space, the anticipated apartments will also feature a communal living space and a kitchen.

Matthew Golden, executive director of Public Relations and Communications, said the construction is being completed within its budget.

"We have completed all footings and foundations," Golden said. "Concrete pours are complete in Building A and 85 percent done in Building B."

"Exterior wall metal stud construction and truss installation are ongoing. Several other items have all been started, including the elevator shaft and metal decking for the roofing as well as utilities from Metzger Drive into the buildings," Golden said.

The apartments are planned to take form during the winter.

"Building enclosure is scheduled for December 2008," Rudeau said.
