SGA 33K carnival awarded SFB funding

Heads up! This article was imported from a previous version of The Signal. If you notice any issues, please let us know.

The Student Finance Board (SFB) decided to award $33,161 to the Student Government Association (SGA) for "TCNJ Carnival" through an e-mail vote prior to its Wednesday meeting.

The request was tabled two meetings ago due to a lack of information by SGA.

Rides will cost $15,500 and $6,000 will cover three game trailers. The rest of the funding will pay for insurance, permits, police and publicity.

In the case of inclement weather, it will cost SGA 10 percent of the cost of rides and games, which comes out to $2,150. If the event takes place on the scheduled date, May 2, this money will be washed back to SFB. The rain date is scheduled for the following day.

SFB also allocated $9,000 for food at the Carnival, which will include unlimited popcorn and cotton candy.

SFB denied a $337 Leadership Development Program (LDP) request by a 13-2 vote for a "Spring Leadership Awards Ceremony."

The ceremony, scheduled two days after last week's SFB meeting, was to recognize all the Student Leaders of the Month and the recipients of other student leadership awards.

SFB was reluctant to award funding because it said the event appeared to be a closed event. LDP said it would pay out of its own pocket if it received no funding.

SFB unanimously awarded $247 to Amnesty International for the "Amnesty Art Show Café." They had requested $267.

The art show will raise awareness about humanitarian issues like Prosorata, a non-profit organization whose purpose is to raise money for healthcare for citizens of Sorata, Bolivia.

Allocated funds will be used for food, materials to showcase the artwork and publicity. SFB subtracted $20 toward items used for a raffle to aid Prosorata. This event is scheduled for April 25 in Holman Hall.

SFB, which prior to the meeting had a total balance of $13,923.04, allocated a total of $9,247.
