Lions outswim Diplomats

The men's swimming and diving team captured its second win against Franklin & Marshall College, while the women's team experienced its first loss on Sunday.

The men's team defeated the Diplomats with a score of 120-80 and improved its record to 2-0.

The women's team fell with a score of 115-90; the team's record is now 1-1.

Sophomore Mike Heaney finished first in three events and led the men's side with victory in the 1,000-freestyle (10:00.39) and the 200-individual medley (2:03.99). He was also the Lions' top finisher in the 200-backstroke, where he earned himself third place (2:06.32).

Junior Liam Gallagher, senior Kyle King and sophomore Tom Nawrot joined Heaney to capture first in the 400-freestyle relay (3:19.54).

King went on to place first in both the 200-freestyle (1:47.35) and the 100-freestyle (48.34).

Nawrot also added to the men's victory with a first-place finish in the 50-freestyle (22.75).

Gallagher joined junior Ken Oliver, junior Josh Forsman and sophomore Ted Yoa to capture first in the 400-medley relay (3:38.87).

Yoa also had an impressive showing with another victory in the 200-breaststroke (2:18.42) and a third-place finish in the 200-individual medley (2:05.90).

Senior George Savulich brought home a first-place finish in the 200-butterfly (2:01.14), while sophomore Mike Molloy finished first in the 500-freestyle (4:52.62).

For the women's side, junior Ava Kiss had an impressive first-place finish in the 200-freestyle. Her time of 1:57.49 was just shy of the NCAA provisional qualifying time. In addition to her victory in the 200-freestyle, Kiss also placed second in the 200-butterfly (2:10.93).

Kiss was joined in the 200-freestyle relay by freshman Ashley Robb, junior Kerry Genese and sophomore Brittany Collyer to place second (3:47.85).

Robb also secured a third-place finish in the 100-freestyle (58.25), while Collyer scored two more second-place finishes: one in the 50-freestyle (26.10) and another in the 100-freestyle (57.35).

Sophomore Emily Reichard took a first-place finish in the 200-breaststroke (2:32.70). She was joined by junior Christine Marino, junior Stefanie Rashti and senior Catherine Benigno, as the four scored a first-place finish in the 400-medley relay (4:19.34).

Marino also took a third-place finish in the 200-backstroke (2:18.80). Rashti added a second-place finish in the 200-individual medley (2:21.50) and a third place finish in the 200-butterfly (2:19.45) for the women's side.

Freshman Stefanie Seto also brought home a second-place finish in the 1,000-freestyle (11:20.99) and two third-place finishes: one in the 200-individual medley (2:22.39) and another in the 500-freestyle (5:34.79).

Both teams will host the Long Island University's C.W. Post campus on Friday in the College's Aquatic Center.
