On Friday, Oct. 1, at about 12:30 a.m., Campus Police officers heard yelling coming from the area of the Lake Sylva dam. They then observed a young man walking from the area toward Norsworthy Hall. The officers stopped the man and asked what he was yelling about. As they spoke to him, they noticed the smell of alcohol emanating from him. The man admitted that he had been drinking.
The young man said that he had consumed four to five shots but wasn't drunk. He claimed he did not have any identification, that he lived off campus and was on the football team. As he spoke, the officers noted his slurred speech. He went on to say he was signed in to New Residence Hall as a visitor.
While searching through his pockets for his visitor's pass, he inadvertently pulled out his student ID and driver's license, identifying him as being underage. Upon repeated questioning on how much he had to drink, he said he drank eight to nine shots of Captain Morgan rum. He later changed his story again and said he had drunk a pint of rum. He was issued a summons for underage possession of alcoholic beverages and released.

A student reported that his wallet had gone missing on Oct. 1 at 11 a.m. He said that he was at a concert in the Music Building. Before the concert, he changed out of his jeans into another pair of pants. He left the jeans in the lower level lounge during the concert. After the concert, he returned to the lounge to find his wallet missing. It was brown and contained $100.
He asked people around the building, but no one had seen it.
Campus Police officers informed the student to contact them if he found his wallet.
At 3 p.m. that day another student reported his bike missing. He had left his bike unlocked outside of Eickhoff Hall. It was missing when he returned about 30 minutes later. He asked around to see if anyone had seen it but had no luck. The student was told by Campus Police to check back to see if anyone returned the bike.

On the night of Friday, Sept. 29, a vehicle ignored a "Do Not Enter" sign on Metzger Drive in full view of Campus Police officers. After they stopped the vehicle, a female student approached and told the officers that she had called the vehicle for a ride. The officers allowed her to enter the vehicle to avoid traffic. As the officers approached the vehicle, they noted a 30-pack of Keystone Light on the back seat.
After getting the driver's identification, they discovered that he was under the legal age to have the beer. He was asked to exit the vehicle and walk to the front of the police car. As he did so, officers detected the smell of alcohol. When asked if he had been drinking, the driver said, "I had about five beers tonight and I know it's wrong to drink and drive, but my girlfriend said she needed a ride from the party she was at."
He was placed in the patrol car and arrested for driving while under the influence, possession of alcohol under the legal age, reckless driving and failure to observe a signal.

Campus Police officers were dispatched Sept. 26 to remove memorial buntings - cloth used as drapery or streamers - at each entrance of the campus. However, when they went to the back entrance, they discovered the bunting was missing. The last time it was seen was at 7 a.m. of that day, by an officer.
The officers searched the area but found no sign of it. After checking the front entrance to find that bunting still in place, the officers spoke with employees of the Grounds Department, but none of them had seen or removed it. The officers then removed the front bunting to Campus Police headquarters. The missing bunting is valued at approximately $35.
