Murder rate soars in Trenton
A recent rash of shootings in Trenton has brought the murder total for this year to 25, setting pace for Trenton's most violent year in history. The current record for homicides in a year in Trenton is 27, set in 1970 and 1979.
In the last three weeks there have been five shootings leading to two deaths and three hospitalizations, according to reports by the Times of Trenton and the Trentonian.
According to the Trentonian, Trenton Police do not know whether the spike in violence is due to a gang war or if the shootings were random.
Director of Construction and Planning leaves post
Brian Murray, former director of the office of Construction and Planning, resigned from his position Oct. 12 to pursue a "very attractive" offer in the private sector, according to Matt Golden, assistant director for Public Information.
With Murray's departure, Curt Heuring, vice president of Facilities Management, Construction, and Safety will be assisted by Jerry Maffia, a consultant from Turner Construction.
"Though Brian was a tremendous resource for the College, we don't anticipate his departure significantly impacting the progress of construction projects," Golden said. Murray oversaw the College's construction projects, including the Science Complex project, which remains in litigation, and the Student Apartment complex, which has not yet resumed construction.
