What if someone told you they could cut your tuition costs, would you listen? Or if someone offered you a scholarship, would you take it? If you could express your standpoint on college spending, would you do it?
The November 8th election is your chance-- Jon Corzine and Doug Forrester are paying attention to young voters by courting us with ideas on improving higher education in New Jersey.
Democrat Corzine, in accordance with his belief that "higher education must be an opportunity for all," has produced an agenda he calls "Greater Affordability, Greater Opportunities," which focuses on increasing aid and scholarships. Republican Forrester plans to highlight the benefits of receiving a higher education in New Jersey by pushing it into the forefront of his administration. Mr. Forrester would do so by forming stronger relationships between higher educational institutes and private New Jersey businesses.
In 2004, young people came to the polls in unprecedented numbers, yielding the greatest youth voter turnout in American history, and these candidates know it. We can make them pay attention to us-using our right to vote is the best way to do it.
The last day to register to vote in the November 8th election is this Tuesday, October 11th.
