Student Government Association (SGA) members raised concerns over the hushed summertime renewal of Sodexho Dining Services' contract at the College, as well as with Sodexho's new meal equivalency option, at their Sept. 7 meeting.
Executive Vice President Jasmine Charl?n's announcement that the contract with Sodexho had been extended for two more years was met with feeble applause by SGA members.
The meal equivalency program, which offers students with Carte Blanche plan options to dine at locations other than Eickhoff Dining Hall for lunch weekdays between 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., was met with varying levels of criticism.
Students were mainly concerned with the timing at which the change was presented to students.
Charl?n said she and Vice President of Student Services Mollie Seiferas were not informed of the adjustments until Aug. 25, after the Aug. 19 deadline for students to change meal plans for the Fall 2005 semester.
"We will contact Residence Hall Association (RHA) and voice our concern about the late notice of the changes to the meal plan in hopes of arranging a new 'meal plan switch day' sometime in September," Charl?n said.
Also at the meeting, Tom Sales, senator of Culture and Society, criticized the response of campus security regarding last week's escape of the Trenton Psychiatric patient.
Executive President Annelise Catanzaro announced SGA support for the Hurricane Katrina relief efforts on campus.
She encouraged members to become involved in one of the six different committees on campus - monetary collection, item collection, welcoming committee for college students from the Gulf region who have been displaced, human rights committee, blood drive committee and publicity committee.
