Freedom (of Speech) Means Never Having to Say You're Sorry
I read the letter, "How to Solve a Problem With The Signal?" published in the Sept. 7 edition of the paper, with a rather inquisitorial expression, which inspired me to write a counter perspective.
If asking the paper, even in the most polite manner, to not publish certain material because it is offensive is not asking for censorship, then I have no idea what is. I am in no way condoning the mocking of the Catholic Church, however I do advocate free expression within Signal articles.
The remarkable thing about one person's offensive material is that it is another person's sense of truth. This should not sound surprising, considering that readers of The Signal hold a variety of views about religion (perhaps half, but not all of the students on this campus are Catholic). All views deserve to be expressed, no matter the agenda behind them. After all, are we not the diverse campus we claim to be?

New Library Slowly Wins Over Campus Construction Skeptics
The New Library looks great, simply astonishing: seemingly endless floors, new carpeting and furniture, personal and group study areas, tons of window lighting - wow.
I admit that I was one of the skeptics who didn't believe it would be completed in time for the fall semester, but I had my reasons.
During its construction, I anticipated the wireless connection, the caf?, and the 24-hour computer lab, only to find that these services wouldn't be available for some time.
I was a little disappointed, but I still think it's a lovely building.
