College administrators play musical chairs for 2005-06 school year

Heads up! This article was imported from a previous version of The Signal. If you notice any issues, please let us know.

Many of the administrative positions at the College have new people filling them for the Fall 2005 semester.

Lisa McCarthy, former assistant director of Student Development and Campus Programs, is now interim director of Alumni Affairs in the office of Development and Alumni Affairs.

The former director of Alumni Affairs, Sandra Carroll, is now the executive director of the Alumni Association at Wilkes University.

McCarthy graduated from the College in 1988 with a bachelor's degree in criminal justice and earned a master's degree in 1991 in counseling and personal services before she began working in the office of Residence Life.

She has served as a residence director, manager of residence assignments, acting director of Residence Life and as assistant director of Residence Life. She then worked as assistant director of Athletics.

"I came as an undergrad and never left," McCarthy said with a smile. "There's something about this place."

As director of the Alumni Association, she maintains the alumni database and works primarily as the liaison with the association. McCarthy said the office's goal is "to increase alumni participation and get more engaged, to help them feel better about the school."

Mary Romspert, formerly confidential assistant to the president, is now the director of research and executive assistant in the office of Development and Alumni Affairs.

Mary-Elaine Perry, formerly vice president of Student Life, is now the major gifts officer in the office of Development and Alumni Affairs. In her place is Elizabeth Paul, formerly associate professor of psychology.

Last spring, Paul became well-known for her research on college hookups, reported in an issue of Newsweek. "Even though I'll miss (Paul) overseeing things in the psychology department, I'm glad that students in general will be able to benefit from her passion and dedication," Jeremy Grey, senior psychology major, said. "She's been a joy to all of the students in the major for years and has helped us all greatly. I suppose we shouldn't keep her to ourselves."

Emmanuel Osagie, who served as interim dean of the school of Business as well as vice president for research and faculty development in the business department for the 2004-05 academic year, was appointed the new dean of the school of Business.

He began as permanent dean in July 2005 and although he was not originally intending to remain in the position, the College's national search did not result in any candidates the faculty felt could do the job better than Osagie.

"I'm really excited about the opportunity to work with the faculty and to work with something that is already good," Osagio said. "We already have a good program here, but we want to make it better."

Osagie received his bachelor's degree at Southern University and A&M College and a master's degree and doctorate in economics from Louisiana State University. He joined the College in the summer of 2000 as director of academic grants and sponsored research.

"I am confident that through his leadership, the school of Business will be successful in enhancing its already successful undergraduate programs, renewing its national accreditation, developing interesting academic collaborations and building new connections to the business community," Stephen Briggs, provost, said in a College press release.

Also, Suzanne H. Pasch, former vice president for academic programs and initiatives, is now vice president for academic affairs at Wheelock College in Boston.

Kevin Maldonado, formerly the Student Organization coordinator and Tim Wilkinson, formerly the Fraternities and Sororities Program Director in the office of Campus Activities, both recently left the College.

"They were both great," Joanna Holguin, Student Government Association's vice president of Equity and Diversity, said. "I'm going to miss them!"

Tim Asher, associate director of Student Activities, is currently taking over Maldonado's duties.
