The College's men's swimming and diving team defeated Bloomsburg University 146-105 last weekend while the women's swimming and diving team lost 147-106. Of the 28 total events at this meet, the College took first in 11 events.
Sophomore George Savulich captured the 1000-yard freestyle (10:22.05) and the 400 individual medley (4:25.85). Freshman Liam Gallagher also won multiple events, finishing first in the 100 back in 56.31 and the 200 back in 2:03.76.
The men's 200-yard medley relay team of seniors Jack O'Donnell and Nick Steffanci, junior Steve Swenson and sophomore Kyle King took first in 1:38.19. The women's team placed second in the same event.
Swenson, Steffanci and King also won individual races. Swenson captured the 200 breast in 2:15.66, Steffanci won the 100 fly in 54 flat, and King won the 100 free in 48.47.
The men's team had two other first-place finishers - junior Koji Bratcher and freshman Josh Forsman. Bratcher won the 100 breast with a time of 1:05.50 and Forsman took first in the 200 fly in 2:03.51.
Junior Erin Stutz was the Lions' only multiple first-place finisher for the women's team. She won the 200 fly in 2:16.40 and the 400 individual medley in 4:44.83.
The women won the 400 free relay in 3:56.61. The relay team consisted of sophomores Catherine Benigno and Julie Nami, junior Beth Hurley and freshman Lauren Breslin. Freshman Ava Kiss was also a first-place finisher, taking the 100 fly in 59.80.
Bishop said he is happy with the way his team is swimming.
"Swimming is not like other sports. Swimmers are racing against the clock and they can't expect to swim their best times every race," men's head coach Brian Bishop said.
Women's head coach Jen Harnett said the Lions are preparing for their big meet at Franklin and Marshall University this weekend.
Though the women's team did not win their meet, Harnett said its members swam very well considering the amount of training that they have been doing.
The important meet that the men's team is preparing for is the Princeton Invitational, which takes place this weekend. Bishop said the meet at Bloomsburg gave the men's team a sense of where they are and what they will be able to do at the invitational.
