Defeating a team they lost to earlier in the season, the men's rugby team captured their first Division II Championship title last Sunday. The Lions had a 3-1 regular season record, which propelled them to post season play for the second time in the club's history.

With alumni and the women's rugby team in attendance, the Lions beat Albright College 43-36 for the title.

Despite trailing most of the game and being down 24-17 at the half, the Lions scored 26 second-half points and held Albright to only 12 points for the win.

Senior wing Doug Adams had three tries for 15 points, junior fullback Jon Stavrou made four kicks for eight points and junior prop Mike Chiumento, senior center Ken Johnsen, sophomore wing Jim Gaughan and junior center Don Snyder each scored in the second half for a combined 20 points.

In the regular season, the Lions won their first game against East Stroudsburg and then followed the victory with their only loss of the season against Albright. The Lions recovered from their loss to Albright to win their final two games against St. Joseph's and Bloomsburg University to get into the playoffs.

The Lions then played Lock Haven University in the first round of playoffs, defeating the Bald Eagles 22-21. That win sent the Lion's into their first-ever Division II Championship game.
