The Lions 1-0 loss to the Richard Stockton College Ospreys, ends an eight-game winning streak.
The Lions' (13-2 overall, 2-2 New Jersey Athletic Conference) loss comes at the hand of the Ospreys during their first season at the varsity level. This is Stockton's first year in the NJAC.
The only goal came from freshman midfielder Christy Capasso 42 seconds into the second half. Capasso handled a loose ball into the circle and swept it into the net. The goal was the Ospreys' only shot in the game.
Lions 1, Falcons 0
Head Coach Sharon Pfluger picked up her 350th career win, and the Lion's 13th win this season, as the College defeated the Messiah College Falcons, 1-0.
The only goal of the game came in overtime, with 6:51 left, from the stick of senior midfielder Jackie Levy. Earlier that week, Levy was named NJAC Defensive Player of the Week.
"I got a great pass," Levy said of her game winning goal. "I just wanted a nice push off."
Messiah forward Danae Chambers was held to only five unsuccessful shots. Chambers helped defeat the Lions with a penalty stroke in 2001 and knocked them out of the NJAC Tournament last year.
The game managed to be intense, even though there was low scoring. "Both teams had a fair share to score," Pfluger said.
Lions 3, Royals 1
The No. 1 ranked Lions defeated the No. 7 ranked Eastern Mennonite University 3-1.
The first goal of the game was tallied by junior forward Colleen Stamler. Stamler, who leads the team in goals, shots and points, deflected the loose ball into the net with 12:53 left in the first half.
In the second half, Eastern Mennonite followed up with a goal at 22:48 left on the clock. Sophomore forward Jonalyn Denlinger notched her ninth goal of the season.
Within 39 seconds, Lions senior forward Jessica Hamway scored the second goal for the Lions assisted by Levy. It was Hamway's third goal of the season, and Levy's fourth assist. "Hamway is an integral part of this team," Pfluger said. "She's a consistant starter who can capitalize on opportunities."
"The game gets real crucial around the circle," Hamway said. "I think we all play well together, and other teams look at that."
With a 2-1 lead, Levy scored one more goal for the Lions with 9:33 left in the game.
Lions sophomore goalkeeper Kristina Beyel, who was named NJAC's Defensive Player of the Week and East Coast Athletic Conference's goalkeeper of the week, had five saves in the game.
Beyel is ranked second in the NJAC for goalie shut outs with five.
Lions 1, Rangers 0
The Lions scored a goal against Drew University in the last minutes of the game to take home the win.
After 60:16 of play, senior defender Jackie Scullen scored her first goal of the season. Scullens shot came from a pass from Stamler, who notched her fourth assist this season.
The Lions defense managed to hold the Rangers to relatively few shots-on-goal. Beyel had two saves and recorded her fifth shut out this season. The Lions finished with 15 shots on goal, holding the Rangers to six.
