Many students are responding well to renovations that have been made to improve the Holman food cart.
The cart was formerly just one table offering limited varieties of snacks. However, during winter break, changes were made to accommodate more space, and the food selection was expanded.
The register area remains the same, surrounded by cookies, muffins and coffee.
However, now, against the wall is a section for pudding, yogurt and pies, as well as sandwiches, wraps and salads.
Hot dogs are a new lunch selection.
The setup also adds more space to the dining area.
However, students and employees believe that further improvement could add a lot to this location.
Monique Woodland, freshman international multimedia major, said that new food selection makes this food cart more welcoming.
She also said that a lounge-type atmosphere may attract an even better response.
"The tables are too small, so I would never sit or study there," she said.
The current tables and chairs are large, metal and appear to be some form of outdoor furniture.
There are three or four tables with four chairs each.
Sarah Jewell, senior biology major, often frequents this location for food and study.
"There are not that many tables and you don't always have room," Jewell said.
Most of the students who buy food from this cart are either on their way or just got out of a class in Holman Hall or nearby. Students said that they would sit down and eat or study if the area provided more of a lounge appeal.
Elizabeth Steffee, sophomore communication studies major, has a class in Holman and often brings food from the cart back to her room after the class.
"I would be more likely sit down and eat if the chairs were more comfortable," she said.
The Holman Cart is open as late as 5:00 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays.
It also opens at 8:30 a.m. every weekday morning. These are times for studying and snacking in between classes.
According to Woodland, improvements to Holman Hall would benefit, "all those students who have class all day, especially in that building."
While the improvement of the food variety is one that is quite well-received, with more meal-type choices, a further improvement could be made upon the seating accommodation.
